Practicing Asanas

Bhujanga Asana

The Bhujanga Asana is standard postures of the Vinyasa practice. It helps you to relax the body, your mind and your soul.

Bhujanga Asana is also known as Lotus Pose. In this pose the knees are crossed over the shoulders with the right leg on the left. The arms are positioned in front of the torso. They should be relaxed to facilitate the flow of prana to all the meridians. If we could know more about the pranic energy and how it flows then we would have the ability to slow or speed up the process.

In the path of yoga we should always pay attention to the basics as they are the building blocks for our training. In this case we will focus on the Bhujanga Asana as it is foundational postures. So let us learn more about this pose and how we can improve upon it.

Stand with your knees at a forty-five degree angle to the right. With your arms and hands placed at the sides of your chest. If you feel a small "V" in your back then use a wall for support and hold your shoulders. If you feel an "X" then you need to stretch your legs further apart.

The third posture asana is your body may start to turn towards the right but keep in mind that this movement is not negative but very good for practicing the pranayama poses. If you feel any pain or discomfort, try to stretch the leg further away from the body.

Pranayama is when you breathe in and out. There are two major arenas, one is Bhujanga Asana and second is Navasana. Bhujanga Asana is a foundation arena for all of the other asanas.

When you start to practice asana you must be patient and do the basic postures. You can modify the Bhujanga Asana to fit your mood. For example, if you feel a little bit tension in your back and stomach you can change your posture so that you don't have the same problem.

Do you feel asana starts a little slow? It will surely get a lot faster as you become more practiced. You can take the help of your teacher, if he is a master of Bhujanga Asana. A student will not understand what you are doing if you don't explain to him.
